I Didn’t Expect to End Up on My Knees Behind the Bleachers

I’ve been playing basketball since I was seventeen. Nothing serious, nothing professional. It’s just that when work gets too much in my head and the apartment starts feeling too small, I grab the ball and walk four blocks to the Rivero park court. Half an hour of dribbling and shooting, and I come back different. Calmer, or at least calm enough to sleep.

That’s why it wasn’t strange at all that Thursday night ended up there after eleven. What was strange was what had made me leave so late.

Two nights earlier I’d had a dream. In it, I was shooting alone when a man arrived, one whose face I couldn’t quite make out. We played for a while in silence. Then, without a word between us, he came up behind me and pressed his body against my back. His hand found my hip. I let the ball drop. What followed was so clear and so physical that I woke up breathing hard, my body still convinced it was happening.

I lay there staring at the ceiling for a long while. My chest was damp with sweat, and there was a sensation low in my gut I couldn’t ignore. That faceless man had been big, broad-backed, with hands that knew exactly where to rest. It wasn’t the kind of dream you can erase with morning coffee.

I spent two days with that. With the image circling in my head, with my body demanding something concrete that work and routine couldn’t cover up. On the third day I grabbed the ball, put a bottle of water in my backpack, and left.

There was almost no one left in the park. A few stragglers finishing their jogging laps, a couple walking a dog along the lit path. The court was empty. I spent a while shooting alone, letting the rhythm of the bounce and the sound of my soles on the concrete empty my head. It didn’t quite work.

When Héctor arrived, I recognized him by sight. I’d seen him around before, on different nights, always in sports clothes with his gray hair slicked back. A solid fifty-something, broad back, big hands. The kind of guy who, at that age, still looks like someone who spent his whole life lifting heavy things. He walked to the edge of the court without hurrying and stood there, looking at the hoop.

“You mind if I shoot for a while?” he asked.

“Not at all,” I said.

We stayed silent for a good while, each of us shooting on our own. Then we started talking without either of us fully deciding to. He told me he’d had insomnia for months, that he walked when he couldn’t sleep, and that sometimes he ended up on the court because moving helped him more than lying there staring at the ceiling. He lived two blocks away. Worked the morning shift and got up at six, so the whole situation made no practical sense at all.

“Wanna play one-on-one?” he suggested.

It was late and nobody was watching. I said yes.

Contact basketball has something particular about it. The other body appears out of nowhere and disappears just as fast. An elbow in the chest, a hand on the hip to block, shoulder against shoulder when both players go for the rebound at the same time. Under normal circumstances none of that means anything. But that night I’d had two days of a dream lodged in my head, and Héctor was exactly the kind of man I’d been imagining.

I started noticing when he took a little longer than necessary to let go when he was guarding me from behind. When his hand on my back felt less like defense and more like deliberate contact. When, as he passed close by me, he brushed the side of my body with his in a way that had nothing accidental about it. I didn’t pull away either. I started moving toward him instead of away from him.

The ball rolled out of the court and neither of us went after it.

We stood there, close. The only light came from the park path about twenty meters away. Héctor looked at me with a calm expression, unhurried, as if he had all the time in the world. Sweat shone on his forehead. He was breathing slowly.

“Do you want me to keep telling you about the insomnia, or is it already clear why I came?” he said.

I didn’t answer with words. I moved close enough to be within a handspan of him and lifted my face. His eyes dropped to my mouth, then to my chest, and back to my eyes as if he were deciding something he’d already decided. I rested a hand on his stomach, felt the hardness under his sweat-soaked shirt, and felt his breathing shift ever so slightly.

“Do you want me to suck you off?” I asked bluntly.

His smile was slight, but I understood it immediately.

“Yeah,” he said. “I want you to suck me off.”

Behind the concrete bleachers there was a narrow space between the structure and the perimeter fence. Long grass, a few stones, uneven ground. It wasn’t the most comfortable place in the world, but it was outside the angle of the park’s few lights and nobody passed through there. We went in together.

I kissed him first, hungry. Héctor answered right away, opening my mouth with his, sliding his tongue in slowly and then deeper, as if he wanted to taste me before really touching me. He tasted of sweat, metal, night. His hand went to the back of my neck and held me there for a second; the other gripped my waist. I pressed just a little against him, feeling the hard bulge against my thigh, and that made him let out a low, almost animal growl.

I pulled his shorts down to his thighs and knelt without thinking too much about it. What I found was thick and still half-asleep, with a broad, dark head. I ran my thumb along the edge of the head and felt it harden under my fingers. I stroked him from base to tip with my whole palm, first slowly, then with more pressure, and I watched the tendons in his neck stand out when he let out his breath.

“Look how pretty you’ve got it,” I murmured, looking up at him.

He gave a short, hoarse laugh.

“Don’t make me talk too much.”

I started slowly. First only with my tongue, tracing the rim of the head, pressing just beneath it where the skin is thinner. I gave him a long lick underneath, from the base almost to the tip, and then took the shaft in my mouth. Héctor rested a hand on my head, heavy but controlled, not squeezing too hard, and with the other he grabbed the edge of the concrete so he wouldn’t lose his balance.

I took him deeper and sucked with rhythm, letting my tongue work the underside while my lips tightened around him. I heard his breathing change all at once. It wasn’t a moan yet; it was a string of shorter exhales, as if the air were starting to run out beneath his skin. I sucked his balls carefully, one by one, rolling them over my tongue and tasting the salty flavor of his skin. Then I went back up and gave myself over to his cock eagerly, taking it as deep as I could, pulling off and going back down again.

“Slow,” he said quietly. Not like a complaint. More like he wanted it to last longer.

I eased up for a second and then started again, deeper, slower. I slid a hand over his thigh, firm, feeling how he tensed every time my mouth closed around him. The weight of his hand on my neck increased slightly. He was guiding me, yes, but with a patience that excited me more than any haste could have. I worked his cock up and down, licking the side, suckling the tip, pressing the frenulum with my tongue until it trembled.

“Like that... yeah... that’s it,” he murmured, his voice already broken.

I liked the sound I was pulling out of him. I liked feeling his cock harden even more in my mouth, the way his abdomen tightened every time I pushed my tongue deeper. I started touching myself with my free hand, over my pants, just to ease the pressure spreading between my legs. Héctor saw it and let out a shaky breath, as if the gesture had finished pushing him to the edge.

“I want to fuck you,” he said, his voice rougher than before.

“I don’t have a condom,” I answered, pulling off him for a moment.

“Me neither.”

“Then no.”

There was a two-second silence. Héctor nodded. He didn’t protest, didn’t insist. I told him he could come in my mouth if he wanted, and he nodded again with that same calm as before.

I grabbed his cock with one hand and kept sucking from the tip, slowly at first, then faster. My other hand gripped the base firmly. He put his hand back on my head, this time with more pressure, guiding me. His breathing grew shorter and louder. The muscles in his thighs showed beneath the fallen shorts. I kept going, taking him all the way down once more, feeling my mouth fill with heat and saliva, the wet sound of my mouth on his cock blending with the empty park and the distant hum of a light.

“Don’t stop,” he said, barely able to speak.

I tightened my lips around him and brought a hand to his balls, massaging them with two fingers while my tongue brushed the tip over and over again. The tension shot through his body all at once. He warned me before he came, with a deep growl from the back of his throat, and then his legs went weak. He held my head firmly, without hurting me, and I kept going until he started to come.

The load was abundant and hot. I felt the first burst of semen hit the back of my mouth and I didn’t pull away. I stayed still and let him finish completely, swallowing just enough so I wouldn’t choke, holding the rest for a moment, feeling the thick, salty taste spread across my tongue. Héctor was breathing hard, his head tipped back a little, his chest rising and falling as if he’d just finished running a race.

I ran my tongue over the tip to get the rest, and he watched me do it with narrowed eyes. Then I swallowed slowly, without looking away, and he let out a low sound, satisfied, almost disbelieving.

“Fuck,” he said very slowly, as if the word cost him.

I got up from the ground, my knees a little stiff. He adjusted his shorts and ran a hand through his gray hair, still breathing hard. Just then we heard firm footsteps and the beam of a flashlight sweeping in from the path. The night guard making his rounds, with the kind of punctuality park guards have at the hour no one expects them. We moved without speaking, leaving the space between the bleachers and the fence, walking separately toward the main exit.

In the parking lot, under a streetlamp, we stopped. Héctor reached for his phone in the pocket of his shorts and held it out to me without saying anything. I put in my number. He sent me a text right then so I’d have his saved too.

We talked for five more minutes. I learned he’d been divorced for four years, that he had two grown kids, and that he’d been living alone since the last relationship ended a few months earlier. He worked for a logistics company, morning shift, got up at six. He told me he didn’t like making life complicated, but there were nights when the body asked for things an empty bed couldn’t give, and for that he preferred honesty over doing anything else.

I understood that perfectly.

We said goodbye with a handshake that felt strange after what had happened behind the bleachers, but we both did it anyway, naturally. Then we walked off in opposite directions.

I got home before one. I showered, drank a glass of cold water, and went to bed. The dream that had brought me there no longer weighed on me the way it had over the previous days. It hadn’t disappeared completely; it was still a vague image of broad shoulders and hands that know where to rest, but it was calmer now. Like a debt that isn’t fully settled, but at least acknowledged.

Before turning off the light, I looked at the new number saved on my phone. The name I gave it was just “Héctor.” No last name, no note, nothing to explain the context to anyone who saw the screen.

I don’t know whether he’ll write. I don’t know whether I’ll write first. But the fact that the number is there, and that neither of us deleted it on the way home, says something.

We’ll see what it says.

Héctor sounds like a whole experience. The way you built up to it felt so real, not forced at all. Definitly coming back for more.
