What We Confessed in the Beach House Changed Everything

Almost three weeks had gone by since that afternoon Iván still couldn’t get out of his head. Since then, he, Tomás, and Carla had seen each other a couple more times, always in secret, always with the same stupid excuse: “let’s meet for a drink.” The beers ended up warm and forgotten on whatever table was nearest, and the three of them always wound up tangled in the back seat of Tomás’s car or in Carla’s tiny apartment, with the windows fogged up and their clothes scattered across the floor.

Iván had a problem, and her name was Marina. His official girlfriend for a little over a year. Blonde, tall, with legs that seemed to go on forever and a body honed in the gym that turned heads everywhere she went. Marina was intense in bed, the kind who dug her nails in and bit, but always within a familiar script, within what she considered normal. Iván had never dared tell her about his darkest fantasies. Much less what happened with his two friends whenever they were alone together.

Until the perfect weekend came along to start telling her.

Iván had rented a small house in Punta Mareta, right in front of the sea, with a wooden terrace and an almost private beach that opened up at the end of a sandy path. He told Marina it would be just the two of them. Romantic, wild, cut off from the world. What he didn’t tell her was that Carla, under the excuse of “stopping by to say hi for a bit,” would show up on Saturday afternoon. And Tomás had turned him down with a crooked smile: “This time I’ll leave you two to it. You can tell me all about it.”

Marina arrived on Friday night, tired from the trip and in the mood for nothing and everything at once. The moment they crossed the threshold, Iván pushed her against the wall in the entryway. He hiked up her dress without patience, moved the fabric of her underwear aside with two fingers, and took her right there, standing up, with the pent-up urgency of someone who’d been holding back for far too many days.

“You missed me,” she said between gasps, clutching his shoulders.

“You have no idea,” he replied.

Marina came twice before he let go inside her, both of them sliding down to the floor with their backs against the cold plaster. That night they slept little. If she knew what I’m about to propose to her, Iván thought as he watched her sleep, the sheet tangled around one leg.

Saturday dawned clear and blue. They had breakfast on the terrace, coffee and fruit, with the sound of the waves in the background and the breeze moving the tablecloth. Marina was wearing only one of his T-shirts and nothing else. Iván looked at her and thought maybe there was no need to complicate everything, that they could stay like this forever.

Then the doorbell rang.

Carla appeared at the door with a beach bag slung over her shoulder and a rehearsed innocent smile. Dark-haired, full-figured, with a sarong tied at her hip that left the bikini underneath on display.

“Surprise!” she said. “Iván mentioned you were around here and I thought I’d steal the day from you. If I’m bothering you, I’ll leave right now.”

Marina frowned for just a second. But it was hard to stay mad at Carla, who had always been kind to her, who hugged her tightly and made her laugh.

“Of course not, the more the merrier,” Marina said, and smiled back.

Even so, something in the quick look Iván and Carla exchanged lodged inside her like a sour note she couldn’t quite place.

They spent the morning on the beach down the path. Tiny bikinis, salty skin, beers pulled from a cooler. Carla never missed a chance to brush against Iván “by accident” as she came out of the water, or to bend down to pick something up just as Marina was looking, letting the top barely cover her. Marina noticed. She didn’t say anything, but she noticed, and part of her, instead of getting annoyed, began to watch with a kind of attention she didn’t fully understand.

In the afternoon they went back to the house with hot, sandy skin. The atmosphere was already charged from the beach, and the three glasses of white wine they opened as the sun went down did nothing but light the fuse. Low music, blinds half-drawn, the golden light of the end of the day filtering through the slats. Carla flopped onto the big sofa, right in the space between the two of them.

“You know what I miss?” she said, her voice coated with something Marina couldn’t name. Her hand settled on Marina’s thigh as if it were the most natural thing in the world. “An afternoon like the one Iván, Tomás, and I had a few weeks ago. It was... intense. The kind you don’t forget.”

Marina went rigid.

“What afternoon?”

Iván swallowed. He felt heat climb up his neck. Carla turned her face toward Marina, her lips curved in a guiltless smile.

“One where your boyfriend let himself go like never before. With me. And with Tomás too.”

The silence turned thick. Marina looked at Iván, eyes wide, searching for a denial that never came.

“Is it true?” she asked, her voice lower than she’d intended.

Iván nodded slowly.

“Yes. It happened. And I don’t know how to explain it without sounding like I’m making excuses. I love you, Marina. That hasn’t changed. But it’s also something I needed to tell you, because I’m sick of hiding it.”

Marina stood up abruptly. Iván braced for the slamming door, the suitcases, the car starting up into the night. But she didn’t run. She stayed standing in the middle of the living room, breathing hard, cheeks flushed, fists clenched. In her gaze, two things fought at once: anger and something darker, more curious, that she didn’t want to admit.

“Show me,” she said at last, her voice hoarse. “I don’t want you to tell me. I want to see it. I want to see what you two are really like when you let yourselves go.”

Carla didn’t wait for a second invitation. She stood up, went over to Marina, and took her face in both hands. She kissed her. A slow kiss at first, testing, her tongue asking permission. Marina resisted for half a second, barely a blink, and then she answered with a hunger that surprised even her, moaning softly into the other woman’s mouth.

Iván watched them from the sofa, his breathing altered, feeling himself harden just looking at them. He stood up and moved behind Marina. He swept the blonde hair away from her neck and started kissing her there, right where he knew it made her tremble, while he lowered the bikini straps she was still wearing. Carla, without breaking her mouth from Marina’s, pulled the top down until it fell away.

Marina gasped when Carla knelt in front of her and trapped one of her nipples between her lips, biting it gently, playing with her tongue. Iván, from behind, finished taking off the bottoms and slid his hand between her legs. She was drenched.

“You’re shaking,” he whispered in her ear. “You like it, don’t you? You like seeing me with her.”

Marina could only nod, her knees weak, one hand tangled in Carla’s dark hair and the other gripping Iván’s arm so she wouldn’t fall.

They took her to the bedroom between kisses and hands that never stayed still. Carla lay down on the bed and spread her legs shamelessly, offering herself.

“Come here,” she said to Marina, tugging her wrist. “I want to feel your mouth.”

Marina hesitated for a moment. Then she knelt between Carla’s legs and lowered her head. She started shyly, with the tip of her tongue, exploring new ground. But the moan Carla drew out of her encouraged her, and soon she was doing it hungrily, discovering she liked it far more than she would ever have confessed out loud. Carla gripped the blonde hair with both hands and guided her, setting the rhythm, arching her back against the mattress.

Iván positioned himself behind Marina, who was still on all fours, and entered her slowly, savoring every inch while she had her mouth busy with his lover. The sight undid him: his girlfriend, the one he thought he knew inside and out, surrendering completely between the two of them.

“That’s it,” he growled, pushing deeper. “Don’t stop.”

The room filled with broken breaths and the creak of the sheets. At some point Carla sat up, rummaged through her beach bag — she always came prepared — and pulled out a harness with a dildo. She strapped it on while Iván kept moving inside Marina, and positioned herself in front of her, offering it to her mouth. Marina took it with tears in her eyes from the effort, unwilling to stop, trapped between the two bodies, carried along by a current she no longer controlled and no longer wanted to control.

Then came the moment Iván had imagined so many times. He lay back and Marina climbed on top of him, riding him with a new ferocity, her hands pressed to his chest. Carla settled behind her, lubed herself up patiently, and started to push the dildo in slowly, very slowly, forcing her way in. Marina let out a long cry, a mix of burning and pleasure, but instead of pulling away she threw her head back.

“More,” she begged through clenched teeth. “I want both of you at once.”

And she had them. Iván and Carla found a shared rhythm, moving in sync, kissing over Marina’s shoulder, biting each other’s lips while she came apart in the middle of them. Marina came once, and then again, convulsing in spasms that left her breathless, repeating their names as if they were the only words she could remember.

When none of them could go on, Iván let go inside her with a muffled grunt, and Carla followed a little later, collapsing against Marina’s back with her forehead pressed to the nape of her neck. The three of them fell onto the tangled sheets, soaked, trembling, too weak אפילו to talk.

A long while passed with only the sound of the sea and their breathing slowly returning to normal. Marina, in the middle, with one leg over each of them, was the first to break the silence. She let out a hoarse, disbelieving laugh, staring at the ceiling.

“I can’t believe I just did that,” she said.

“Do you regret it?” Iván asked, suddenly tense.

Marina turned her face toward him and kissed him, slowly, without hurry, as if sealing something.

“No,” she answered. “But next time I want Tomás to come too. I want to see everything. What you told me and what you didn’t.”

Iván and Carla looked at each other over her head and smiled, conspiratorially.

Outside, the sun was finishing its descent into the horizon and the house was falling into shadow. The weekend, in truth, was only just beginning.
